Week 1 - Lecture Response

Yesterdays lecture was... well...to be frank, like a ball bouncing around a room, in a strange way. I can't stand lecturers that stand up the front and ramble on from the textbook in a monotone voice, blatantly stating their unhappiness with the lecture. I can't manage to keep my eyes open. However, yesterdays lecture wasn't like that (thank god!) It was fun, but hard to follow. There are a lot of thoughts going on at once and while that is awesome, it shows i have lectures that care... (at least a little bit) about the content. :) I'm pretty sure I'll get used to the way things are done.

Now to the lecture content.
New technology Vs. Old Technology
I definitely agree that a line can be drawn between analog and digital, in terms of modernity. It seems that no way of communication is ever really removed completely. Communication is just added to, maybe with a great new ability or one that's not so good. For example, the 3g network and phone abilities are fantastic, yet many argue the positive social outcomes of Social Networking sites. Communication just seems to develop. I guess I see YouTube, the posting of videos into the public sphere, as the modern day equivalent to the ancient form of cave drawings. :)

Week 1 - Tutorial Activity

I am a first year communications student majoring in journalism. If i had thought that i would be posting a blog for assessment back in high school I don't think I would have believed it. It's a good thing. :) It's nice to know that I'm being 'educated' in new technologies.

My plan is journalism, and not the kind where I have a 2 paragraph story about a man and his donkey in some shitty local newspaper. I hope to write editorial pieces for magazines or something a like, or move into television. I think, and well i hope, that this course gives me the ability to trial some of these avenues rather than the standard stuff in other classes. I am transferring to Sydney's UNSW, where I think a lot more opportunities in my interest are available. :)

I find it very funny, I'm a bit of a contradiction. I'm 20 years old, and have recently decided to discard my Facebook account. I know, I know. Social Networking is amazing, BLAH BLAH BLAH. I can't live without it BLAH BLAH BLAH. But seriously it's not. Well i don't think so and i guess that is where the contradiction comes in. I'm a communications student who has chosen to revolt from modern communication technology. It was a personal choice and a good one. I hated being consumed with a tailored society and I hated how everyone decided they wanted to make up the puzzle pieces of MY life. It's been two and a half months and I haven't looked back. :)

This week however, I am finding it hard to concentrate, as I am attending a massive music festival over the weekend called Splendour in the Grass, so after that, Uni will have officially began for me. Get back to me then
